World Vegetarian Day
World Vegetarian Day
Before starting this post, I would like to tell you,
Happy World Vegetarian Day!
Yep, today (1/10) celebrates the greens and colourful food that is so often seen on a plate. I'm going to tell you the history about this day and much more. Remember to check out a quiz I made at the end, to find out your knowledge of World Vegetarian Day and what you've learnt from this post. (Unfortunately, World Vegetarian Day was on the 1/10, which was yesterday, but I wasn't able to publish this post, so I'm doing it today)
History:
World Vegetarian Day was started by the American Vegetation Society (AVS) in 1978 to promote the different benefits of vegetarianism. The society was founded by William A. Alcott, in 1974, attracting many people to join. The idea of not eating any meat was particularly bright even in the Renaissance era and in the Age of Enlightenment, when various cultures and people tried it out. The first vegetarian society was started in England in the year 1847, while in the year 1908, the International Vegetarian Society was founded. Meanwhile, the first vegan society was started in 1944.
Statistics of Vegetarian People:
Approximately 22% of the global population is vegetarian (which is about 1770000000 people) and this number is growing. The most number of vegetarian people inhabit India with over 38% (which is a rounded off 540000000 people) of its population not eating any meat. This number is most likely because of the Hinduism over there.

Benefits and Facts of Being Vegetarian:
- Healthier BMI
- More Controlled Blood Pressure
- Get protein from lentils
- Low Cholesterol Levels
- Helps the Environment
- Fewer Calories in Food
- May Lower Risk of Diseases
But Non-Vegetarians out there (which actually includes me), don't worry. There are as many benefits of being non-veg to vegetarian and thousands of meats in the world have equally as many pros to vegetarian food.
Anyway, that brings to the end of this post, so here's the link to the quiz that I mentioned at the start of this post:

ReplyDeleteTysm, and, wow, that's a good score compared to when I asked my friends some of these questions (they ended up guessing half of them)! ❤️
DeleteI think people should make it a habit to eat only veg on few days in a week given the benefits it provide.
