Honesty

Rate the importance of honesty on a scale of one to ten. If you chose less than ten, definitely keep reading this post. If you chose ten, still read this post. I assure you, it'll give you a better understanding of the importance of honesty.
Honesty plays a significant role in life. Why? Because it creates trust. Without trust the world wouldn't be like how it is now. We wouldn't have houses, power lines or even shops if honesty didn't exist. In fact, the device you're reading this on wouldn't even be here. As well as that, ever heard of the phrase 'honesty is the best policy'? I can't think of any truer statement than that.
Once, I lied to a friend. I'm lucky that we're still friends. So, we were working on a history project and she asked me if I'd done my part (which was making the model of Captain Cook's shop). Even though I hadn't done it, I said yes, since I was in year 2 and still didn't understand the importance of honesty. I got home from school, and completely forgot about the project that we were supposed to present the next day, until 5 pm. It flashed in my mind, and I got to work, creating a flimsy but not bad model. After I fell asleep, in the morning, I found out I didn't glue the sails and the top together properly, but I still messaged my friend on my mum's phone that I was ready. As I got to school and the people before us were presenting their model, my friend lifted it up to have a look at it, and the top fell down. We were so lucky that it wasn't our turn, and I told her the whole story of the ship. Although she was angry at first, she got over it, and I learnt my lasting lesson.
In my opinion though, the person who showed most honesty in history is Abraham Lincoln. In one story itself, when he had short-changed a customer in his shop, by even just a penny, he wouldn't lie and say it was correct. Instead, he would close the shop and walk whatever distance he needed to, in order to get the remaining change. In return, people respected him. They asked him to act as judges several times in fights or arguments, all because of his honesty.
Now, after reading this blog post, I hope you understand the importance of honesty. For those of you that rated the significance of honesty less than ten at the start of the blog, now rate it. But ALWAYS remember, 'Honesty is the best policy'. (Quote written by Sir Edwin Sandys)
